I have visited Southport beach on numerous occasions. It is full of photographic potential, with the pier providing an interesting counterpoint to the patterns on the wide beach. It’s also a
handy location for me, being a 15 minute drive from home.
Earlier visits did not produce the image I was after. On this occasion, everything came together. It had rained during the day, so the beach was wet when I arrived, providing a reflective
surface. The cloud cover started to break as evening approached, which showed promise for an interesting sunset. And finally, as the sun sank below the clouds on the horizon, the pier lights were switched on. Result: one happy
photographer.
