Dollywagon Pike, Lake District UK

Dollywagon Pike is the southernmost peak on the Helvellyn range of peaks. The image was taken in November, after the first real dump of snow in the winter season.

I had arrived early to capture Fairfield in the early dawn light, but the lighting conditions were disappointing. This continued for most of the day, and I started to descend from Fairfield, disappointed that I didn’t get the lighting I was after. However, the weather started to break as I reached the tarn, visible to the left of the image. By this time, it was late afternoon and the sun was low in the sky, creating some wonderful lighting conditions on the hills.

There was nothing for it, I started to ascend again, heading towards St Sunday Crag. Occasionally, I would stop and take pictures of Dollywagon Pike and Helvellyn. This was the best image from the set.
