Hobcarton, Lake District, UK

This image was taken on a round of the Coledale Horseshoe in August 2004. The weather was humid, thundery and extremely changeable, which meant the light was constantly changing too. This made photography more of an action sport than a sedate past-time, especially after a few soakings!

Taken near Hopegill Head, this is a view towards the minor lakeland peak of Hobcarton. I decided that the view was suitable for a panoramic format and took two seperate shots that were later stitched together in Photoshop. The longer end of the 18-35mm lens was used to prevent barrel distortion from ruining the stitch later on.

The image was composed to take in the sweep of the valley, and the fleeting light on Hobcarton was positioned to be a distant focal point, along with the thundery shower of rain beyond that.
